Fifth Philippine Environment Summit
“Ako Ang Bukas: Quantum Leap to Climate Neutrality”
Green Convergence, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), convened the 5th Philippine Environment Summit on February 19–21, 2025, in Iloilo City under the theme “Ako Ang Bukas: Quantum Leap to Climate Neutrality.” The biennial, three-day summit brought together representatives from government, the private sector, civil society, academe, and development partners to advance climate action and promote the shared goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Through plenary discussions and breakout sessions, participants explored practical solutions to reduce carbon footprints across households, businesses, schools, and communities, highlighted innovative environmental initiatives, strengthened collaboration, and encouraged every sector to become an active stakeholder in building a climate-resilient and sustainable future.
Fourth Philippine Environment Summit
“Caring for Earth: Scaling up Solutions to the Climate Emergency”
Green Convergence, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), held the 4th Philippine Environment Summit on February 21–23, 2023, in Tagaytay City under the theme “Caring for Earth: Scaling up Solutions to the Climate Emergency.” The biennial summit gathered around 1,000 participants from government, local government units, civil society, businesses, academe, and communities to strengthen collaboration in addressing the climate crisis.
Through plenary discussions, parallel sessions, and exhibits, the event highlighted practical solutions in renewable energy, organic agriculture, native tree reforestation, ecological solid waste management, climate adaptation, and sustainable development. It also encouraged every Filipino to take personal responsibility in advancing environmental protection and climate action.
Third Philippine Environment Summit
“Paradigm (re)Shift: Heeding Nature”
Cagayan de Oro hosts the 3rd Philippine Environment Summit with the theme “Paradigm (re)Shift: Heeding Nature” from February 26 to 28, 2020 at the Grand Caprice Convention Center. This year’s Summit showcases programs and projects that contribute to the country’s social and economic advancement while protecting the environment.
The biennial Summit is unique to most fora on the environment that present the dire state of our planet for it recognizes the valiant efforts of many Filipinos who are taking positive steps to counter the destruction.
Plenary speakers include Howie Severino of GMA 7, Federico Lopez, CEO of the Energy Development Corporation, San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza, and Mitos Urgel of the World Fair Trade Alliance Asia. DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu is the speaker for the keynote addre
Hosting of the summit is rotated among the three major island groups of the country. The Summit was first held in 2016 in Luzon at the SM Mall of Asia, Metro Manila, while the 2018 event was held in Visayas at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City. The 2020 Summit is the first time that Mindanao hosts the event.
The 3-day Summit carries the themes of Safe Food, Healthy Environment, and Sustainable Economy. Each day has plenary sessions in the morning and breakout sessions in the afternoon. Around 1000 participants from all over the country are attending.

Throwback to the 2nd Philippine Environment Summit (2018) 🌱🌏
The Second Philippine Environment Summit opened yesterday morning at the Waterfront Hotel Lahug in Cebu City, with the theme “Mainstreaming Innovations towards Sustainable Development.”
The gathering brought together a diverse community of environmental advocates, including educators and students from the academe, environmental NGOs, representatives from the church, business sector, media, and national and local government.
The Summit served as a powerful demonstration of “Greening Together, Growing Better”—a shared commitment envisioned by the event convenor, Green Convergence for Safe Food, Healthy Environment, and Sustainable Economy.
Through collaboration, innovation, and collective action, the Summit highlighted the importance of working together toward a sustainable and resilient future for the Philippines. 🌿

“Breakthroughs and Innovations towards Sustainable Development”
The Inaugural Philippine Environment 🌏
In response to the growing environmental challenges confronting the Philippines and the world, Green Convergence for Safe Food, Healthy Environment and Sustainable Economy (Green Convergence), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), convened the 1st Philippine Environment Summit: “Breakthroughs and Innovations towards Sustainable Development.”
Held on February 9–11, 2016, at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City, the Summit served as a landmark gathering that brought together diverse voices and champions for sustainability. It united leaders, experts, and advocates from national and local government, business, the academe, civil society, media, and other sectors committed to building a greener and more resilient Philippines.
Anchored on three critical areas—food safety, environmental and natural resource protection and conservation, and sustainable economy—the Summit provided a platform for sharing knowledge, highlighting achievements, addressing challenges, and advancing innovative approaches toward sustainable development.
More than a conference, the Summit became a venue for collaboration, dialogue, and collective action. It sought to:
- Share knowledge and inspire action by presenting developments, accomplishments, challenges, programs, and initiatives in food safety, environmental protection, natural resource conservation, and sustainable economic growth;
- Strengthen partnerships and networks among government, private sector, civil society, academe, and other stakeholders to foster meaningful collaboration and convergence;
- Generate policy recommendations that will support effective strategies for food safety, environmental stewardship, natural resource conservation, and sustainable economic development; and
- Showcase successful convergence efforts among different sectors, demonstrating how collective innovation and shared responsibility can create lasting solutions for the environment and society.
The 1st Philippine Environment Summit marked a significant step toward transforming environmental challenges into opportunities for innovation, partnership, and action. It affirmed the belief that protecting our natural resources and building a sustainable future require the commitment and cooperation of all sectors of society.
Together, through convergence and innovation, we can nurture a safer environment, healthier communities, and a more sustainable economy for generations to come.
